The Beauty of Switzerland

Published: Mar/Apr 2002

Switzerland is a panorama of sights unmatched in all the world. Nestled in the Alps and bordered by Austria, Liechtenstein, Germany, and Italy, Switzerland is home to two of the most popular rail journeys in western Europe. DER proudly presents these two independent rail tours spotlighting the most popular sightseeing in this majestic land.

Experience two of the most famous sights in Europe — the Jungfraujoch and Mt. Pilatus — on the exciting Tops of Switzerland rail adventure. The journey begins in Interlaken, ideally located just two hours from the Zurich airport. On the trip up to Jungfraujoch, see spectacular views overlooking the Aletsch Glacier. The adventure continues on the Brunig Panoramic Express from Interlaken to Lucerne. The lake, mountains, and medieval architecture make Lucerne a scenic blend of natural and man-made beauty. From the small town of Kriens, board a chair lift and gondola for a climb of 7,000 feet to the top of Mount Pilatus. Mount Pilatus is considered one of the best places for a magnificent panoramic view in the Northern Alps.

A truly memorable vacation experience can be found on the Classic Glacier Express rail tour, featuring a magical journey on Switzerland’s most famous mountain train. Pass through the majesty of the Valais, Ticino, and Glarus Alps while seated comfortably in the Glacier Express’ panoramic car, which allows a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and treetops. Stretching from Zermatt and the Matterhorn to Tirano, Italy, and to Schuls at the Austrian boarder, the Glacier Express winds its way through Switzerland’s Southern-most villages and breathtaking scenery.
