On a recent visit, the first thing I noticed was the attentive, courteous service extended at the curb and front desk. That same level of service was seen in the restaurant, where I was greeted by name each time I visited.

The 300-room hotel, now in its 11th season, is the only AAA four Diamond property in Branson. My suite had a sitting area with a desk, wet bar, mini refrigerator, coffee maker and television. The roomy bath could accommodate two females trying to get ready at the same time, and the sleeping area, with two queen beds and plenty of space, also had a television.

My daughter and I spent a good deal of time at the indoor pool, but the hotel also offers tennis, fitness center and a movie theater. And I appreciated the smoke-free environment.

But the star attraction at the chateau is the spa. Spa Chateau is a wonderful place to be pampered and the same courteous service was extended there. I indulged in the Grand Chateau Massage (50 minutes, $95). Steam, sauna and whirlpool areas are available to guests 18 and older before or after the treatments. The facility is beautiful and very welcoming.

As the Branson area kicks off its popular Ozark Mountain Christmas holiday season, a girls’ getaway to the Chateau on the Lake would make a wonderful weekend. The hotel’s two-night package includes a spa treatment, pedicure, accommodations with fruit, wine and cheese upon arrival and more for $440 per person. Head to Silver Dollar City for a new cooking class and a bit of shopping during your stay, take in a show, and check out the outlet malls in town. There also are holiday packages, including New Year’s Eve at the hotel. For more information, call (888) 333-5253 for reservations or visit www.chateauonthelake.com. Ask about the discount for AAA members.
