New hotel planned at Universal, 2014

Universal Parks & Resorts announced in July that it will build a new Lowes Hotel at Universal Orlando. The Cabana Bay Beach Resort is scheduled to open in 2014.

The family-friendly hotel has a vintage motor court vibe, with dramatic design, bold colors, and touches of neon. There will be 900 family suites and 900 standard guest rooms, offering moderate and value-priced accommodations. The suites can sleep up to six people and include a kitchen. The resort also has two themed pool areas. Universal wants to evoke the driving vacations many Americans experienced as children, when families pulled off the highway into a motel, cooled off in the pool, and relaxed after a day of travel.

“The Cabana Bay Beach Resort furthers our goal of operating special and distinct properties in important markets,” said Paul Whetsell, Lowes Hotel & Resort president and CEO.
