Live like Bond while visiting Great Britain

American pop culture has been greatly influenced by Britain over the years, and 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of a favorite film icon: James Bond.

When actor Sean Connery debuted in the first agent 007 movie, Dr. No, in 1962, who could have guessed that the Ian Fleming character would continue for more than 20 movies. The 23rd Bond film, Skyfall, is due in U.S. theaters on Nov. 9 and will star actor Daniel Craig as Bond.

Bond fans can see some of the film locations, try out the glamorous restaurants and bars, and get the fashionable look when visiting Britain.

Love Bond’s look? Then a visit to London’s Savile Row should be on your itinerary. Pop in on tailors, like Henry Poole, who invented the tuxedo. Turnbull and Asser in London’s West End has made fitted shirts for every Bond actor.

Accessorize the outfit with one of the famous martinis (shaken not stirred) that Bond is known to enjoy. In fact, Dukes Hotel near Turnbull and Asser has one of London’s most elegant bars, and it’s said that Fleming’s famous line was inspired by the bartender. Another legend around the bar is that the Vesper martini– ordered by Bond in Casino Royale–was invented there.

Speedboat rides on the River Thames, posh restaurants, and spas for pampering all are in Britain for a gentleman and his lady to enjoy. For more Bond lore and golden anniversary news, check out the site, www.007.com.
