Four tips to help you to travel more healthy

Vacations certainly improve our mental well-being, but keep your physical health in mind while you travel this summer. Consider these four health tips to take on your vacation.

  • Some international destinations require vaccinations anywhere from two to 12 weeks in advance of travel.
  • Pack medications in original containers on your flight’s carry-on bag. Leave a copy of your prescriptions at home with family or friends in case of an emergency.
  • Carry a backup pair of eye glasses or extra contact lenses on your trip.
  • Consider traveling with a pre-loaded credit card that will allow you to withdraw travel funds on the go, which could be helpful in an emergency medical situation.

Your AAA travel professional can provide information and help you plan a trip with your health in mind.

Time to prep for the holiday road trip

As the Memorial Day weekend approaches, the summer travel season is about to begin. In 2012, AAA projected almost 35 million Americans traveled more than 50 miles away from home over Memorial Day weekend (Thursday–Monday). And of those who planned to travel, approximately 88 percent were taking a road trip.

If your family is planning a driving vacation this Memorial Day weekend, AAA has a few tips to help make your drive a smooth one, so you can arrive at your destination safely and without incident.

  • Ensure your vehicle is properly maintained before heading out on the road. In addition to inspecting the vehicle, check the tires, too. AAA’s network of Approved Auto Repair facilities will do free maintenance inspections, provide a written estimate, and offer a warranty on parts and labor.
  • Map your route in advance of your trip. AAA travel professionals can help you get to your destination and provide road construction updates along the route.
  • Remember to pack your AAA membership card, which will come in handy if you have an emergency along the road. Show your card at selected hotels along the route and save on accommodations.
  • Keep your cell phone charged for emergency purposes while traveling.
  • Stow anything of value in the trunk or in covered storage areas. This includes phones, laptops, purses, wallets–anything that could tempt a thief to break into your vehicle.
  • To avoid the heaviest traffic, consider what time you plan to be on the roads. Leave earlier or later than the rush if possible.

With a little prep, you can leave travel stress at home and enjoy the Memorial Day holiday with your family.

Retro resort at Universal Orlando

Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, a new 1,800-room hotel set to open in 2014 at the Orlando theme park complex, is accepting reservations for stays beginning on March 31, 2014.

The rooms will sport bold design and bright colors. A standard guest room is marked for $119 per night, while 430-square-foot family suites that can sleep up to six people, will go for $174 per night. Packages rates also will be available that combine rooms with tickets to both theme parks.

Guests will enjoy two pools with sand beaches, a lazy river experience, and 10-lane bowling alley on the property. A food court will serve American classics, as well as international fare.
