What to pack

It’s September and Southern beaches are less crowded, but water is still warm enough for a post-Labor Day dip. Children are back to school, and destinations along the Gulf Coast have an even more relaxed vibe in autumn.

If you’re planning a beach weekend this fall, these items may brighten up the trip, while valuable AAA discounts help you keep a few bucks in your pocket so you can enjoy a cold drink by the water.

The crowds may be gone, but that doesn’t put an end to fun at the beach. Fall festivals showcase the Gulf’s bounty. Here are two to consider.

The 32nd Annual Biloxi Seafood Festival comes up Sept. 14 and 15. Held at the Biloxi Town Green on Beach Boulevard, this event includes great seafood dishes. Shop for arts and crafts, or enjoy a variety of music and family activities.

There’s nothing small about Gulf Shores’ 42nd Annual National Shrimp Festival, held Oct. 10–13 at the main public beach in Gulf Shores, Ala. Some 300 vendors will sell items, and–best of all–you can enjoy fresh seafood.
